Back in 2018, I made a decision to expand my focus to include the Movie Trivia Schmoedown – a combination of movie trivia and WWE entertainment. As the brand grew, my writing on here came to an end in November 2018 as I was given the chance to write for their new website, TriviaSD.com along with a number of other Schmoedown bloggers. Recently it was announced that as the crew’s focus is needed elsewhere, it was announced that the site will be coming to an end. This means that the Schmoedown will be making a return to this site!

First of all, I want to give a big thank yous:

  • To Schmoedown creator and Chairman of the league Kristian Harloff and TriviaSD.com Managing Editor William Bibbiani for giving me the chance to write for the site
  • To the cast and crew, who continue to create an amazing product that is just going from strength to strength
  • To the fans, who have helped to create such an amazing community

Over the space of a couple of weeks, I am posting my articles from the site onto here. As some of these are almost a year old, some of them are somewhat outdated and may have proved to be completely off the mark.

Since late in Season 3, the Schmoedown has been blessed by the presence of the one and only Brianne Chandler. Arguably one of the more underrated competitors in the league, her 2-2 record in Singles and her 3-5 Teams record across Six Degrees, Sick in the Head and Take the Cannoli does not do her justice by any stretch.

Along with her Six Degrees teammate Stacy Howard, “Miss Movies” made her debut in October 2016 with a win over the Wangers and became somewhat of a regular in Season 4, joining Jay Washington as part of the Missfits, until she stepped away from the faction at Schmoedown Spectacular 2. Since then, she may not have competed as regularly, but she has been a key cog in the league by running the Patreon, while she was able to win the Free 4 All and play in the historic title match that saw the Shirewolves become the league’s first ever female champions.

Brianne has become such a great part of the Schmoedown and what a better way to celebrate her, as she leaves her position of Patreon manager, than with a countdown of Miss Movies’ Top 5 Schmoedown Moments!

Honourable Mention: The Star-Spangled Banner

Okay, so I cheated and couldn’t narrow it down to five without giving this moment a mention. Miss Movies kicked off Spectacular 3 this December with a beautiful rendition of the national anthem. Now as a big sports fan, I know that this is commonplace in American sports but we Brits generally only get that before international matches, so it was a wonderful moment to start such a great event!

5. Taking on KOrruption

After months of Mike Kalinowski bullying Commissioner Thadd to get his way, it was KO’s former partner Miss Movies who took a stand against KOrruption’s influence on the league. Brianne put together a list of competitors that would walk away unless Thadd refused to do what Kalinowski wanted and took things further by pushing him into a match against Kristian Harloff, Tom Dagnino and Emma Fyffe for the position of Commissioner, leading to the most fun match of Spectacular 3, the end of Thadd’s reign, the elevation of Emma Fyffe to a Commissioner role and the reveal that Harloff had been behind Kalinowski all along.

If it wasn’t for Brianne taking a stand, we may still be under the control of one Mike Kalinowski… let me stop that thought right there!

4. A Spectacular Surprise

Through her time in the Missfits, Brianne developed a strong rivalry with Mike Kalinowski, losing to him twice in Singles and also once in teams. With the Manager Bowl kicking off Spectacular 2, Brianne was nowhere to be found and Stacy was left to support Jay Washington on her own, Jay eventually coming third behind Tom Dagnino and the victorious Emma Fyffe. But Brianne appeared later and announced that she had made some decisions about her future and Jay was dismissed. She asked Stacy to come with her, but Stacy chose to say with Jay.

As if that wasn’t enough a shock, we saw her then leave the studios to jump into a car being driven by… Mike Kalinowski! The greatest of rivals were joining together and we were sent into the break between seasons with heads spinning as we tried to figure out what was going to happen next.

3. Ultimate Upset

Entering the 2017 Ultimate Schmoedown with a 1-1 record and up against 2016 Rookie of the Year Clarke Wolfe, I can’t imagine Brianne was a popular choice on people’s brackets for this match. Despite this, she went toe to toe with her more experienced opponent and came away with a 20-18 victory. She may have lost in the next round to Mike Kalinowski, but that in no way diminishes her achievement.
As I stated earlier, Brianne is an underrated competitor and this match showed that on her day, she could beat anyone the schedule could throw at her.

2. The Entrances

When someone mentions great entrances in the Schmoedown, Brianne’s name will quickly be brought into the conversation.
Nominated for Entrance of the Year in both Singles and Teams in 2017 and 2018, Brianne doesn’t know how to just walk out to her seat and is always looking to put on a show. From Buffy to Harley Quinn via American Psycho, she has made great costumes and choreography the norm when coming out for a match. She even managed to get Drew McWeeny into the spirit with Take the Cannoli’s Logan-themed entrance.

There are too many great entrances for me to pick a favourite, what’s yours?

1. Free For All 2

If you wanted more proof of Brianne’s quality as a competitor, look no further than the 2018 Free 4 All. Coming out at 44/48 certainly helped, but with William Bibbiani and Ethan Erwin still at the table, victory was far from guaranteed. However, she went 19/20 over the four remaining rounds to beat out two future Singles Champions and win the Free 4 All!

I love this moment as it reminds us that Brianne is not just a flashy entrance, but also a competitor who should never be overlooked going into a match.
